A Finished Mystery from Life In Pieces

There hasn't been much sewing room time the last couple of weeks.  No point in posting if there isn't anything to post about, so there were no posts last week.  October has proved to be a busy month, with late nights at work and we were on the road the first two weekends of the month.  We were mostly home this weekend, so I had time to sew a bit and to finally get some photos of my last finish.

PHD in 2021: September Progress from Life In Pieces

This year certainly hasn't gone to plan on the work or quilting fronts.  The calendar says it's October, just three months in the year to make good on those goals we set back in December.  I'm disappointed in the lack of progress this year, last year was so good for finishing projects. But life sometimes throws us curves, so I'm trying hard to remember that progress counts too.  So I'm going to celebrate the progress made with Quilting Gail's 2021 PHD quilt along.

There are two updates to my 2021 PHD report.

There's ...

Slow Stitching to a Finish from Life In Pieces

We took a day off on Friday and enjoyed a three day weekend. My Guy was still pretty sore from his bicycle accident the weekend before, so the plan was to just take it easy and hang out at home.  He was feeling much better by the end of the weekend, though he still has some really colorful bruises.

My goal was to get laundry done and then spend a lot time in the sewing room working on some finishes.  The easiest was to finish reworking some face masks.

These were some of the first masks I made. The elastic ...

To Do Tuesday for Week of 9/21/2021 from Life In Pieces

It's been a fast month.  Work is still insanely busy, but I think there is light at the end of the tunnel.  Keep your fingers crossed for me on that front.  I'm not working as late as much as I was, that's meant more time for stitching stuff at home.  That shows in the progress on last week's to do list.

Weekly To Do List for 9/14/2021
  • Morewood Mystery: Trim quilt, make label and binding
  • Cabin and Fans: Finish first border
  • Unity: Make HSTs for step 6
  • Scrappy Butterflies: Make Irish Chain blocks
  • Macaron ...

Working On a Finish from Life In Pieces

It's always exciting to get a quilt back from the quilter.  One more project almost finished and off the to do list.  But there's still a few steps to complete between pulling it out of the shipping box and taking that last stitch in the binding.

One goal for this weekend was to finish those pre-binding steps so I could focus on finishing up the Morewood Mystery quilt this next week.  I remembered to do finish step1 just before I went to bed on Saturday.  I printed out the label, soaked it, and let it dry overnight. Sunday ...

September One Monthly Goal: Finish the Morewood Mystery from Life In Pieces

We're 6 days into September, so it was time to put some thought into what the One Monthly Goal is for September and link up with Elm Street Quilts

An email came from Trudy on Friday saying that the quilted Morewood Mystery was in the mail and on it's way back to Oklahoma.  Finishing off that mystery project is the most logical candidate for this month's OMG.

I've finished and vetted the new quilt name and label with the Scientist in Training.

The SIT has always thought the square in a square block with the teal ...

PHD in 2021: Better than July from Life In Pieces

August has become September, just 4 months left in 2021.  One of my goals for this year was to finish 8 quilts. I've been playing along with Quilting Gail's PHD in 2021 as one way of staying motivated to meet that goal.

I'm not doing so hot on that goal or on my PHD. There was no change in the my  report between last month and this month.

No new finishes, but no new starts either.  So that's a bright spot. There was progress on all of the active projects so that's another plus.

Morewood ...

August One Monthly Goal from Life In Pieces

It's hard to wrap my head around the fact that August is almost over.  Just four months left in the year.  That's even harder to wrap my mind around. But it happens every year, you'd think I'd be used to it at this point.  As the month is just about over, it's time to talk about my August One Monthly Goal and link up with the end of the month linky party over at Elm Street Quilts.

The plan this month was to get the Morewood Mystery Quilt prepped for quilting.

The last step in ...

To Do Tuesday for Week of 8/10/2021 from Life In Pieces

It's been about three weeks since my last To Do Tuesday post.  To Do Lists were written, but nothing was checked off, so nothing really to post about. Finally this last week there was some action on the stitching front.

To Do List for 8/3/2021

  • Morewood Mystery: Finish prepping quilt top
  • Cabins and Fans: Work on row 7
  • Unity: Make HSTs for clue 6 as leader and ender
  • Scrappy Butterflies: Finalize quilt setting

The biggest achievement was getting the Morewood quilt top pressed and de-threaded.  Now that's done, I can get back to piecing. Even better ...

August One Monthly Goal from Life In Pieces

It's the end of the first week of August. Definitely time to pick a One Monthly Goal and link up over at Elm Street Quilts.

I've noted in earlier posts that the last half of July was pretty bad on the stitching front. For the first time in at least 18 months I didn't finish my OMG for the month.  So the plan for August is to pick up where I left off and finish prepping the Morewood Mystery for quilting, then package and ship it out for quilting.

I'm about a third of the way ...

PHD in 2021: July's Missteps from Life In Pieces

July went really fast and with the first week of August almost in the bag, it's obvious that the last half of the year is going to move at the speed of light. July had a few nasty surprises.  Shoulder issues sidelined me for the last 2 weeks of the month.  That means limited computer and sewing time till the inflammation goes down.  So I've been pretty absent from the blogging world.  Add in the two weekends I spent with the Scientist in Training one for fun and one to get her moved, my sewing time was pretty ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 7/20/21 from Life In Pieces

The middle of July has come and gone.  It always feels like the last half of the year goes faster than the first half.  Thankfully work has calmed down, but my weekends are going to be pretty full the rest of the month. There won't be much stitching time, so the To Do List will be a bit lighter this week.  First though, here's the progress on last week's To Do List.

To Do List for 7/13/2021

  • Morewood Mystery: Press and prep quilt top for pressing
  • Cabins and Fans: Finish row 6 and start row ...

To Do Tuesday For The Week of 7/13/2021 from Life In Pieces

A short work week and a relaxing weekend spent mostly at home made it pretty easy to check off all of the items on last week's To Do List.

To Do List for 7/6/2021

  • Morewood Mystery: Finish assembling backing
  • Cabins and Fans: Continue assembly of row 5
  • Unity Make HSTs for clue 6 as leader and ender
  • Macaron Mystery: Shop stash for more fabric palettes
Last week's list is all checked off.  Of course I'm keeping my lists pretty easy and simple so I'm successful.  The whole point is progress and so long as ...

2021 MidYear Quilty Ambitions Check In from Life In Pieces

Back in December 2020, Quilting Jet Girl hosted the 2021 Planning Party to give everyone a chance to think about goals for the new year.  Well, 2021 is more than half over and it's time to check in on the progress (or lack thereof) on My 2021 Quilty Ambitions as part of the 2021 MidYear Checkin

2021 Quilty Ambition #1: Finish 8 Quilts in 2021

I'm not doing so hot on this one.  As of July 1st there are only two finishes in 2021.

My May and June were pretty crappy months at work, so I didn't ...

July One Monthly Goal from Life In Pieces

The holiday has thrown the blogging schedule off a bit. It's already the 7th of July and it's time to pick a One Monthly Goal and link up with Elm Street Quilts.

I'm hoping to finish 8 quilts this year. With two down and six left to go, finishing another quilt should really be the priority.  The Morewood Mystery quilt is the closest to being finished.

Morewood Mystery by Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs

The backing will be made from the multicolor print and the dark teal fabrics.

The fabric is all cut and stitching together has ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 7/6/2021 from Life In Pieces

This last week went pretty quickly.  Having time off for the holiday has been nice. I took today off as well, the plan is for a nothing but stitching day to get a jump on this week's To Do List.  Time off last week helped make short work of last week's to do list.

  • Morewood Mystery: Start cutting and assembling backing
  • Cabins and Fans: Continue assembling row 5
  • Unity: Make HSTs for clue 6 as leader and enders

Three for three is a good week. Progress was made and that's my goal each week, to just keep ...

PHD Progress at the Half Way Point from Life In Pieces

Hard to believe it's already July 2021.  The last two months have passed really fast for me. My work-life balance was pretty much non-existent during that time.  Thankfully, things have improved and I have hopes of making more progress this month.  So hopefully next month's PHD report will look a lot better than this one.

I squeezed in one more finish at the end of June.

Not a great showing for the half way point in the year. But that's all I had finished at the midpoint of 2020, but 5 more projects were completed before the ...

To Do Tuesday for the Week of 6/29/2021 from Life In Pieces

Work has gone from insanely busy to the normal crazy busy, so I've been able to get in a bit more stitching time this week. There was time to work on the To Do List for the week.

To Do List for June 22, 2021
  • Grassy Creek: Finish quilt, take photos
  • Morewood Mystery:  Finish last border
  • Cabins and Fans: Continue assembly of row 4
  • Unity: Make HSTS for clue 6 as leaders and enders

Last week four out of four to dos checked off, so a really good week compared to the previous 8 or so.  Can I keep ...

To Do Tuesday for 6/8/2021 from Life In Pieces

We actually hit steamy yesterday.  It's been a very cool spring here compared to the high temps elsewhere in the country the last couple of weeks, but the cool stuff may be over for a while.  Work continues to be busy, but things look to be calming down.  I got in more stitching time this week, but I still didn't finish everything on my list.

Weekly To Do List for 06/01/2021
  • Grassy Creek: Sew on binding, finish quilt - progress
  • Morewood Mystery: Work on border 3
  • Cabins and Fans: Assemble row 3, start row 4
  • Unity: Make ...

PHD Progress from Life In Pieces

The plan for this year was to finish a lot of quilts. Participating in Quilting Gails 2021 PHD (projects half done) is supposed to help me with that goal.

May was a definitely lacking in stitching time, so my PHD report doesn't show a new finish yet.

The biggest success so far this year is that I've not started anything new.  I do have some planned starts later in the year, but so far I've avoided the squirrels.  The only change to the list was the addition of another project to this year's UFO list.  I ...
